Tell the Ohio House: Don’t Cut Ohio Libraries!
While this letter is different from our usual communications, we greatly encourage you to carefully consider its contents and take action to support your Guernsey County District Public Library.
The Public Library Fund has played a crucial role in providing services to patrons like you at the Guernsey County District Public Library such as:
- Digital & Streaming Resources
- Home Delivery and Bookmobile stops throughout the county
- Computers, Wi-Fi, & Hot Spots
- Meeting and Study Rooms for public use
- Storytimes & Programs for all ages
- Beyond Book items such as educational items and Memory Kits
- All the other things you expect from a library
However, GCDPL and other libraries across Ohio are facing an unprecedented challenge in the Ohio House of Representatives' proposed budget. We need your help. The House’s proposal would:
Eliminate the requirement that a percentage of the state General Revenue Fund (GRF) be dedicated to the PLF.
Reduce state funding for Ohio’s public libraries by more than $100 million over the biennium as compared to the Governor’s proposal.
Create a new distribution formula that would cut funding to public libraries in 39 counties, including ours as of July 1.

To support your library and those across Ohio, please contact House Representatives Adam Holmes and Don Jones as well as House Speaker Representative Matt Huffman TODAY and urge them to restore the Public Library Fund to the amount designated in the Governor’s proposed budget.
Tell them why the library is important to you, your family, and your neighbors. Please let them know how the proposed cuts will impact you and our community.
